The pharmacist Basil Besler (1561-1629) lived in Nürnberg and Eichstätt. He expressed his great botanical interest in his detailed drawings of rare plants and flowers. The pictures of Hortus Eystettensis are unique, which he created and published in 1613 in a book. It contains 367 drawings of1084 plants, which were kept in the garden of the Willibald Castle. The pictures in the book were later engraved by six engravers to make possible a reproduction of the unique documentation.
